Is that how you replace the license plate light bulb??
![]() 12/14/2015 at 12:56 |

No, each bulb has a clear cover held on with two very ordinary screws.

I know that feel, bro. Not sure if you can still get it replaced at the dealer for free. I know there are some aftermarket versions in CF and “chrome.” I have the “chrome” one on my TCM xB and it looks awesome!

I’m trying to convice my dad to not get it fixed at the dealer again (third time this broke) and just find another to replace it entirely

Notorious problem with xB’s

Alternatively he can stop pulling on it as soon as he squeezes the lever. Just have him wait literally 1 more second and it’ll never break again.

I will proceed to drill that into his head

I think I mentioned this in a QOTD. Scion putting flimsy plastic handles on metal hatches is idiotic.

I’m pretty sure save some Rolls Royces or the lot, all door handles are plastic on metal doors.

Flimsy’s a big word there. Scion has had a well earned reputation for broken handles.
Typical door handes are very sturdy, and rarely fail. Scion has you lifting a heavy hatch (frequently loaded with snow in many parts of the country) with a thin plastic piece similar to those plastic rain guards. Good for about 10 pounds of pressure.
Scion has had a recal, suffered a class action lawsuit, and been the target of multiple dedicated websites just about these stupid handles. And they still put them on every model.
If you look at the OP’s pic, you can see the small plastic nub that has sheared off. That should not be a load bearing component.

I know, I have an xB where the handle broke off. The main problem is most people squeeze and lift at the same time. Yes it’s annoying, but if you squeeze then wait a second, literally, just a second longer, and then lift, you can avoid the broken handle for a long time.

The phrases “Scion tC” and “duct tape” go hand-in-hand.
